Saigon Insights – getting an update!

Hey friends of our blog,

so as you can see, it is a bit chaotic right now. Well I am trying to share now with you what I have learned from last years work. My goal this year is to list out to you information that’s as important or even more important to know or support to travel eco-consciously. So while I do that, and I do a bit everyday, you will see some transition of our pages… Stay tuned…

Thank you xoxo,

Owner of Royal Saigon

Places marked with the red star (*) are all located within 0,5 km walking distance from Bui Vien/Pham Ngu Lao. Click links for more informations.

  • Green Ride* Eco-bus goes through the city center at any time from Pham Ngu Lao Bus Station for only VND 12.000 and takes around 20-25 minutes to the Saigon Zoo.

  • Sightseeing Bus*Hop-on-hop off city bus. Bus No. 35 at Ben Thanh Station.

  • City Bus Lines* Here you find the destinations of the city bus of the Pham Ngu Lao Bus Station listed.
  • Cyclo Fun ride to get around. Agree on a fix price with the driver or

  • Motorbike Taxi at corners (Xe Om)Agree on a price in advanced. 1-2km can start by VND20k/30k. Even 2 passengers are possible. (Good for combined destinations)

  • Grabcar/Grabbike  Great app for cheap and safe rides & pay cash.  Type in your start and destination and see how competitive the rides are. You pay a fix price for any traffic situation and drivers are in the “focus”. You can rate each driver which is important for them.

  • TaxisThe white Vinasun taxis have a good reputation. However, always double check, if the meter is on. If they try to get you on a fixed price, then get out of the car immediately. Caution! There are some “fake” Vinasuns around. Read the name carefully VINASUN. Usually at the taxi stands a gentleman in green button up shirt stands there to allocate the drivers.

16. Somewhere between the kind Saigoneers:

Saigon is a safe place to visit! Saigoneers are mostly warm hearted, friendly and helpful. Even though it is never wrong to be cautious the healthy way. There seem to be snatchers doing their thing. Strong touristic frequented areas like Ben Thanh Market or Bui Vien are their hot spots at day and night. Two guys on a motorbike slowly come closer and snatch what they get and ride off. They target cellphones, bags/purses that are easy to snatch off ones who seem unmindful or little too loose with it. Also a few other situations can lead to wrong directions. Do not worry, it happens in certain cases only. I listed easy and safe basics that keep you in your Zen mode.
